Taliban security forces in Herat confirmed the death of the deputy commander of their 10th security district. The Taliban blamed "armed robbers," but a little-known armed group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Taliban spokesman said two armed individuals entered a barbershop intending to rob it. The deputy commander intervened and was seriously wounded. He was transferred to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The "People's Liberation Movement of Afghanistan" had claimed responsibility for the attack two days earlier. Taliban say both armed individuals fled but were later identified and arrested.
