Uzbek security forces arrested an Afghan man at the Termez International Trade Center while he was attempting to sell 506 grams of opium for $2,500. The operation was carried out in cooperation with customs and police in the Surkhandarya region.
According to initial investigations, the Afghan citizen, born in 2003, had concealed the opium in five packages inside his body to hide it from border inspection officers. After entering Uzbekistan, he went to the Termez International Trade Center to deliver the drugs, where he was arrested.
Uzbekistan's security service announced that a criminal case has been opened and investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices. This incident highlights the strict security monitoring Uzbek authorities maintain over activities in the border zone.
