Rescue workers are struggling through deep, sticky mud. One rescuer said after an 18-hour shift: "People want to find their family members, but we just can't." Nepal's disaster management authority confirmed that 933 hydropower plant workers and 517 foreign nationals, including mountaineers and pilgrims to Mount Kailash, are among the missing.
The Red Cross warned that the psychological trauma from the disaster is "enormous," with up to 93,000 people potentially affected. Massive ice and mud flows have formed large lakes, raising fears of further flooding and complicating ongoing search operations.
