Local sources in Badakhshan province have reported an explosion in Faizabad city, the provincial capital, on Thursday morning, October 1st. According to these sources, the explosion occurred in the Wakilabad Dasht-e Shohada area, but precise details about the type of explosion and potential casualties are not yet available.

Local Taliban government officials in Badakhshan have not yet officially commented on the matter. The incident occurs as Badakhshan province has seen a significant increase in security incidents in recent months, including Taliban military operations against armed opposition groups and widespread arrests of individuals accused of collaborating with them.

Just three days before this incident, on Monday, September 28th, another explosion took place in the "Jalghar" area of Faizabad city. That attack targeted a Hilux-type vehicle belonging to Taliban forces. The "Afghanistan Freedom Front" claimed responsibility for that explosion.

In a statement, the Freedom Front claimed that the Monday attack resulted in at least three Taliban members being killed and two others injured. This front is one of several armed groups that declared their existence against the Taliban government after its return to power and occasionally organize attacks in different parts of the country.

The rise in insecurity in Badakhshan, which borders Tajikistan, China, and Pakistan, has raised concerns about stability in northeastern Afghanistan. The Taliban government has consistently claimed to have established nationwide security, but continuous reports of explosions and armed attacks challenge this claim.

Residents of Faizabad have expressed concern about the security situation and are demanding serious attention from officials to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the Thursday morning explosion.
