Abdul Haq Wasiq, the General Director of Intelligence for the Taliban government, said at a gathering in Maidan Wardak province that security forces are fully prepared to defend the country and its system against any threat.
According to domestic media reports, Mr. Wasiq assured attendees at the meeting that Taliban forces are capable of countering any challenge. He also added that their forces have thwarted attempts by aggressors on the country's borders. These statements come as the Taliban government faces security challenges, including from the ISIS-K group.
The intelligence chief was speaking with the aim of reassuring the local population. He assured the people that there is no reason for concern and that security is maintained across the country. He urged the public to cooperate with the security forces.
Since returning to power in August 2021, Taliban officials have frequently appeared in various provinces to project strength and reassure the public about their control over the security situation. Maidan Wardak province holds strategic importance due to its proximity to the capital, Kabul.
In another part of his speech, Abdul Haq Wasiq called on the youth to participate in the country's reconstruction. He emphasized that young people should work to rebuild Afghanistan while also being prepared to defend their homeland in the event of any foreign aggression.
This combined message of military strength and encouragement of civic participation is part of the Taliban government's strategy to consolidate its rule and win public support in different provinces of Afghanistan.
