AI company Anthropic told prospective investors on Wednesday that its revenue in the third quarter surged 45% from the prior quarter, a move that could assuage market concerns about the huge costs of developing AI systems.

According to Reuters, citing two people who attended the investor day, revenue rose to $16.8 billion in the third quarter, up from $11.6 billion in the second quarter and $4.7 billion in the first quarter. Anthropic also told the group the company was profitable on an adjusted basis in the third quarter, they added.

The meeting, described as a pre-IPO event, signals the company's strong financial growth amid the booming AI industry. Anthropic is a major competitor to OpenAI.

The topics at the event went beyond financials. The company reportedly reassured investors on its approach to AI safety, with themes including "no human extinction," according to the attendees. This highlights Anthropic's effort to differentiate itself by emphasizing responsible AI development.

Anthropic's revenue growth and profitability come at a time when investment in the AI sector is soaring, but investors are also looking for proof that these massive capital outlays can lead to sustainable profits.

This financial achievement strengthens Anthropic's position in the competitive AI market and could pave the way for a successful Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the near future.
