On Tuesday, June 27, the Taliban flogged a man and a woman in Samangan province on charges of adultery and escaping from home. Each person received 39 lashes in public. This action comes as Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, recently warned that the implementation of public punishments by the Taliban has increased significantly in the current year.
