This Privacy Policy explains how Zarin TV LLC (“Zarin TV”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use:

  • Our website: zarintv.com, including its English, Dari and Pashto sections, and live.zarintv.com (the “Website”).
  • Our apps: the Zarin TV apps, including the Zarin TV channel on Roku, the Zarin TV iPhone app, and any other Zarin TV app that links to this policy (the “Apps”).
  • Our Meta integration: the Zarin TV Meta (Facebook/Instagram) integration, which we use to manage and publish to Zarin TV’s Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts (the “Meta integration”).

Together, these are our “Services”.

Zarin TV is an internet-only (OTT) Afghan television network based in the United States. We stream 24 hours a day in Dari, Pashto and English. We are not carried on US broadcast, cable or satellite television. Besides our own Services, you can also watch Zarin TV on GlWiz, Afghan ProCast TV and the Eshgh TV box. Those services are run by other companies, and their own privacy policies apply when you use them.

1. Summary

  • No accounts. Our Apps have no accounts, sign-in or registration.
  • Roku channel. The Zarin TV Roku channel shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking tools.
  • Live stream. When you watch, your device connects to our streaming provider’s server, which sees your IP address and device or player information in its normal server logs.
  • Video ads in the live player. The live player on our Website, and inside our iPhone app, may show video ads from Playmatic and from Google (through our ad partner Ad.Plus). These ad partners may collect device and usage data.
  • Website ads and cookies. Our Website shows ads from Google and other advertising partners, who use cookies and similar technologies. You can opt out of advertising cookies through our cookie consent tool.
  • Information you give us. We only receive personal details such as your name or email address if you choose to email us, post a comment or use a contact form.
  • No selling for money. We do not sell your personal information for money. Some US state laws treat advertising cookies as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. See section 9 for how to opt out.
  • Deletion. You can ask us to delete your information at any time by emailing [email protected]. See our Data Deletion page: https://zarintv.com/data-deletion

2. Information you give us

  • Emails. If you email us (for example at [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected]), we receive your email address, your name if you include it, your message and any attachments. We use this to reply to you and to keep a record of your request.
  • Contact form. If our Website offers a contact form, it collects your name, email address, subject and message. We use this to reply to you.
  • Comments. If comments are enabled on the Website and you post one, we store your name, email address and comment. For spam protection, our website software also records your IP address and browser type. Your name and comment may be shown publicly; your email address is not published. If your comment shows a profile picture, a coded version of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a Gravatar image.
  • Privacy and deletion requests. If you make a privacy or deletion request, we collect the information we need to find your data, confirm the request comes from you, and complete it.

We do not ask for sensitive information, such as government ID numbers, financial or health information, precise location, contacts or photos, in any of our Services. Please do not send us this kind of information.

3. Information collected automatically

3.1 Zarin TV apps

Zarin TV channel on Roku

  • It has no account, sign-in or registration.
  • It shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking tools.
  • It does not access your contacts, photos, microphone, camera or location.
  • It plays the live channel from our streaming provider’s server (see section 3.2).
  • Roku collects information about your device and how you use channels under Roku’s own privacy policy. We do not control this.

Zarin TV iPhone app

  • It has no account, sign-in or registration.
  • It shows the Zarin TV live player, the same one used on our Website. It does not show other Website content or Website ads.
  • The live player plays the stream from our streaming provider’s server (see section 3.2) and may show video ads (see section 3.3).
  • Apple collects information under Apple’s own privacy policy. We do not control this.

Other Zarin TV apps

Other Zarin TV apps (for example on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV / Google TV, Android phones and tablets, or Apple TV) will have no account. They will not contain in-app ads or analytics unless we first describe them in this policy. They play the live stream from our streaming provider (see section 3.2), and the company that runs the device or app store collects information under its own privacy policy.

If an App saves a setting on your device, such as a language choice, that setting stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.

3.2 The live stream

When you watch Zarin TV live in an App or on our Website, your device requests the video from our streaming provider, BozzTV. Like any web server, the streaming server receives and logs:

  • your IP address;
  • your device or player type (for example, the browser, app or device model);
  • the date and time of your requests.

This information is used to deliver the stream, to keep it running and secure, and to fix technical problems. BozzTV keeps these logs under its own policies.

3.3 Video ads in the live player

The Zarin TV live player, on our Website and inside our iPhone app, may show video ads before or during the stream. These ads may come from:

  • Playmatic, a video advertising network; and
  • Google Ad Manager, through our advertising partner Ad.Plus.

When the player asks for an ad, these partners, and the advertisers and advertising companies they work with, may collect device and usage data. This can include your IP address, your device type and operating system, browser or app information, the page or app where the ad appears, and information about the ads you see and whether you interact with them. They may use cookies, device identifiers or technical characteristics of your device to recognise your device, choose and measure ads, and detect fraud. They use this data under their own privacy policies (see section 6).

3.4 Website: cookies, identifiers and logs

When you visit our Website, the following information is collected automatically, by us and by other companies whose services run on our pages:

  • Log and device data. Our web host and Cloudflare receive your IP address, browser and operating system, the page you came from, the pages you view, and the date and time. They use this to deliver the Website, keep it secure and block abuse.
  • Advertising cookies and identifiers. We show ads through Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager, through the Ad.Plus network and its partners. Ads may appear as display, anchor, side-rail, interstitial and video ads. These companies and their advertising partners set or read cookies and similar identifiers so they can:
    • show ads, including ads based on your interests where the law allows;
    • limit how often you see the same ad;
    • measure how ads perform;
    • match identifiers with other advertising companies;
    • detect and prevent ad fraud;
    • combine this information with information they collect on other websites and apps.
  • Cookie consent. Our cookie consent tool stores your cookie choices in a cookie so it can remember them.
  • Page-view and popup counts. Tools on our own website count how many times pages and popups are viewed, so we can see which content is popular. We use these counts as totals, including the visitor counts shown on the Website.
  • Content from other providers. Some pages load fonts from Google Fonts, code from jsDelivr and Cloudflare’s cdnjs, images hosted by X (Twitter) and other websites, and profile images from Gravatar. The live player includes Google Cast support. These providers receive your IP address and browser information when your browser loads their content.

We do not use Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel, or other analytics or social media tracking tools on our Website or in our Apps. If this changes, we will update this policy first.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

  1. deliver the live stream, the Website and the Apps, and keep them working and secure, including preventing fraud, abuse and attacks;
  2. show ads that fund our free, independent service, and measure those ads;
  3. understand, as totals, which content is viewed;
  4. reply to your messages, support questions and requests, including privacy and deletion requests;
  5. manage and publish to our Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts;
  6. comply with the law, enforce our terms, and protect the rights and safety of our viewers, staff and others.

We do not use personal information to make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

5. Meta (Facebook and Instagram)

We use the Zarin TV Meta (Facebook/Instagram) integration to manage and publish to Zarin TV’s Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts. It does not offer “Log in with Facebook” or Instagram sign-in, and we do not use it to access your personal Facebook or Instagram account.

Through the Meta integration we may receive information about our own Pages and accounts, such as our posts and their statistics, and public comments and reactions on our posts, including the public name and profile picture of the people who post them. If you send a message to one of our Pages or accounts, we receive your message and your public profile name.

  • We use this information only to manage our Pages and accounts, publish content, moderate comments and reply to viewers.
  • We do not use it to build profiles about you or to target ads.
  • We do not sell, license or buy information received from Meta.
  • We keep it only as long as we need it for these purposes, and we delete it when you ask us to or when Meta asks us to.
  • You can ask us to delete information we received about you through the Meta integration by emailing [email protected]. See section 11 and our Data Deletion page.

Meta’s own use of your information is governed by Meta’s privacy policies (see section 6).

6. Who we share information with

We share information only as described in this policy, or when you ask us to. Our service providers may use the information only to provide their services to us and must protect it in line with this policy. Advertising partners and platforms are independent companies that use information under their own privacy policies.

Service providers

  • BozzTV: live-stream hosting and delivery. Receives IP address, device or player type and request times.
  • Cloudflare, Inc.: content delivery, security, bot protection and email-address protection for our Website. Receives IP address, browser information and security signals. Privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
  • Our web host: hosts our Website. Receives server log data, and any comments or contact form messages you submit.
  • Our email provider: stores the emails you send us.

These companies collect information under their own privacy policies:

Other disclosures. We may also disclose information:

  • when required by law, court order or other valid legal process;
  • to protect the rights, safety and security of Zarin TV, our viewers or others;
  • to our professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, under a duty of confidentiality;
  • as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. If this happens, the new owner must honor this policy, and we will give notice before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

7. How long we keep information

  • Support and general emails and contact form messages: up to 24 months after our last message with you, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Privacy and deletion request records: up to 24 months after we complete the request, so we can show that we handled it. We keep only what is needed for this.
  • Comments: until you ask us to delete them or we remove them.
  • Information received through the Meta integration: only as long as needed to manage our Pages and accounts. We delete it within 30 days of your request.
  • Server, content delivery and streaming logs: kept by our web host, Cloudflare and BozzTV under their own retention policies.
  • Advertising cookies: each advertising partner sets how long its cookies last. You can delete cookies at any time in your browser.

When we no longer need information, we delete it or make sure it can no longer identify you.

8. Security

  • We use HTTPS encryption for the Website and the live stream.
  • We limit access to the email accounts and systems that hold personal information.
  • We use Cloudflare’s security services to protect the Website.

No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. To report a security problem, email [email protected].

9. Your choices

  • Cookie settings on the Website: use our cookie consent tool (the cookie banner or the “Manage consent” link on zarintv.com) to opt out of advertising cookies. This is also how you opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information for targeted advertising. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Your choice applies to the browser and device you use.
  • Interest-based ads: you can also use the tools below. Opting out does not remove ads; you will still see ads, but they will be less personalized.
  • Global Privacy Control and “Do Not Track”: our Website does not currently respond automatically to Global Privacy Control (GPC) or “Do Not Track” browser signals. Please use our cookie consent tool to opt out. If we start honoring these signals, we will update this policy.
  • Device advertising settings: you can limit ad tracking or reset your device’s advertising identifier in its settings, for example:
    • iPhone and iPad: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising;
    • Android and Google TV: Settings > Privacy > Ads;
    • Roku: Settings > Privacy > Advertising;
    • Fire TV: Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings.
  • Apps: you can stop an App from connecting to our streaming provider and, in the iPhone app, to video ad partners, by closing or uninstalling it.
  • Meta: you can delete your own comments and messages on Facebook and Instagram at any time, or ask us to delete information we received through the Meta integration (section 11).

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy (access);
  • correct inaccurate information (correction);
  • delete your information (deletion);
  • opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, or of targeted advertising;
  • object to or restrict certain uses of your information;
  • receive your information in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent;
  • appeal our decision on your request.

How to make a request. Email [email protected] and tell us which right you want to use. To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising, use our cookie consent tool on the Website (section 9) or email us.

  • We may need to confirm that the request comes from you. Because we do not have user accounts, we will usually do this by matching details you give us, such as the email address you wrote from.
  • Advertising cookies are stored in your browser and are not linked to your name or email address in our systems. For that data, please use our cookie consent tool, your browser settings and the partner opt-outs in section 9.
  • We will respond within 30 days. If we need more time where the law allows, we will tell you why.
  • You may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We may ask the agent for proof that you authorized them.
  • We will not treat you differently for using your privacy rights.

US state privacy rights, including California. Residents of some US states, including California, have the rights listed above under their state laws. In the past 12 months, we have collected these categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers, such as IP address, cookie and device identifiers, and, if you contact us, your name and email address;
  • Internet or other electronic activity, such as pages viewed, video requests and interactions with ads;
  • General location, such as the country or city inferred from your IP address;
  • Communications you send us, such as emails, comments and messages.

We collect this information from you, from your device, and from our service providers, advertising partners and Meta, for the purposes described in section 4. We disclose identifiers and internet activity to service providers to run our Services, and we allow advertising partners to collect identifiers and internet activity for advertising, which some state laws treat as a “sale” or “sharing”. We do not collect sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Zarin TV LLC is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. We use your information on these legal bases:

  • Consent, for advertising cookies and similar technologies where the law requires consent. You can withdraw consent at any time through our cookie consent tool.
  • Legitimate interests, to deliver and secure our Services, fund our free service through advertising where consent is not required, reply to your messages, and manage our social media Pages. You can object to this use.
  • Legal obligation, where we must keep or disclose information to comply with the law.

You have the rights to access, correction (rectification), deletion (erasure), restriction, objection and data portability, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

11. Deleting your data

Full instructions are on our Data Deletion page: https://zarintv.com/data-deletion. In short:

  1. Apps: we do not keep an account or profile for you. Uninstalling an App removes any settings it saved on your device.
  2. Website: delete cookies in your browser or change your choices in our cookie consent tool. To delete comments, contact form messages or emails you sent us, email us.
  3. Meta: email us to delete information we received about you through the Meta integration. You can also delete your own comments and messages directly on Facebook or Instagram.
  4. Anything else: email [email protected] with the subject “Data deletion request”. Tell us which Service you used and what we should search for, such as your email address, the name on your comment, or your Facebook or Instagram profile name.

We will acknowledge your request within 7 days and complete it within 30 days. We will delete your information unless we must keep it by law, to resolve disputes or to prevent fraud. If we keep anything, we will tell you what and why. Deletion is free and available to everyone.

12. Children’s privacy

  • Our Services are for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. None of our Apps is listed in a Kids or Made-for-Kids category.
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow interest-based ads to be shown to them.
  • If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
  • In the EEA and the UK, a higher age limit (up to 16) may apply where local law requires it.

13. International users

Zarin TV is based in the United States. Our Website is available worldwide, and our Roku channel is available in all countries where Roku allows it. Our service providers and advertising partners may process information in the United States and in other countries, including the European Union and Russia, where Playmatic is based. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from the laws where you live. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

14. Accessibility and captions

Our live stream does not currently include closed captions. If you have a question or complaint about closed captioning, or about the accessibility of our Website or Apps, please contact us:

  • We will post any changes on this page and update the “Last updated” date at the top.
  • For significant changes, we will also show a notice on the Website and, where possible, in the Apps.
