A new app called “Hazel” has been launched using Artificial Intelligence to assist families with potentially neurodivergent children. Developed by Bristol-based company Spicy Minds, the app provides users with tests that AI interprets to create personalized strategies for various situations such as school attendance or holiday planning.
“Parents shouldn’t have to wait years to understand their child’s needs and get practical support,” says Ben Cosh, CEO of Spicy Minds. According to the company, approximately 7,000 children in Bristol are currently waiting for NHS autism assessments, with waiting lists continuing to grow.
Nicola Bennett, who waited five years for her son’s autism diagnosis, believes having access to such an app would have been “amazing” for her family. She adds, “As a parent you need to learn about neurodiversity to support the child in the right way, especially if you’ve never come across it before.”
