French newspaper “Le Figaro” reported, citing Indian police, that at least 12 people were killed and 38 others injured following Pakistan’s artillery attack on the “Poonch” region.
The Hindustan Times also reported on Wednesday , quoting a senior Indian police official: “The evacuation process of civilians has begun, with residents being transferred to the safe zone of Surankot or moving to areas farther from the contact line.”
This exchange of fire occurred after the Indian government announced Tuesday night that its army had targeted nine locations in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir in a precision strike, which New Delhi claimed were terrorist bases.
The Indian Embassy in the United States emphasized that Operation “Sindoor” only targeted terrorist camps and did not attack Pakistani civilian or military installations.
Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, claimed that his country’s fighter jets and air defense had shot down five Indian fighter jets.
General Ahmad Sharif, the Pakistani Army spokesperson, also announced that the death toll from India’s attack on Pakistani territory had risen to 26 with 46 injured, and that the response to New Delhi’s attack would continue.
