Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Deputy Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic, has announced that with the deportation of Afghans, several Iranian provinces are now facing labor shortages.

According to him, before the deportation operations began, more than 6.5 million Afghans were living in Iran, of whom about two million had entered illegally.

This official described undocumented migrants as a major problem for the Islamic Republic that must be deported, but also acknowledged that most employers had preferred to hire Afghans.

Pourjamshidian also claimed that a large number of undocumented migrants have voluntarily returned to Afghanistan.

According to Jafar Seyedabadi, Director General of Foreign Nationals and Immigrants of Khorasan Razavi province, three to four thousand Afghans are being returned to Afghanistan daily through the Dogharoun border crossing, and this process will continue until August 2025. Since the beginning of the current year, 844,000 undocumented Afghan migrants have been returned to Afghanistan through this border crossing.
