Diego Borella, assistant director on the hit Netflix series “Emily in Paris,” died at age 47 after suddenly collapsing on set in Venice.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the iconic Hotel Danieli, where the crew was preparing for the final scene of season five.

Medical personnel on set attempted to revive him, but Borella was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the ‘Emily in Paris’ production family,” a Paramount Television Studios spokesperson said in a statement.

“Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.” Borella, who was locally hired as a third assistant director, was not just a crew member but a respected Venetian professional who had trained in Rome, London, and New York, and was also active in visual arts and literature.

Season 5 of “Emily in Paris,” starring Lily Collins, began filming in May in Rome before moving to Paris in June and then to Venice in August.

Production was temporarily suspended following Borella’s death but resumed on Saturday.

Netflix recently released the first look at the new season and announced it will premiere on December 18, 2025.

According to local doctors, Borella likely suffered a sudden heart attack, though the official cause of death is still pending investigation.
