Iran’s customs officials announced the seizure of nearly ten kilograms of heroin from a vehicle entering the country from Afghanistan at the Dogharoon border in Khorasan Razavi province.

According to local media reports, this border crossing is located near the Islam Qala port.

Dogharoon customs officials told Iran Labor News Agency (ILNA) that the shipment was skillfully hidden in the tank of a Samand vehicle and was identified using X-ray scanning equipment.

Although Iranian authorities have not released information about the suspect’s identity, Samand vehicles typically belong to Iranian drivers who travel between Herat and Mashhad.

Last year, the Customs Supervision Headquarters of Khorasan Razavi also reported the discovery of approximately 25 kilograms of narcotics from a truck at the Afghan border.

Recently, Iran’s Etemad newspaper reported that the decrease in opium seizures from 750 tons in 2021 to 209 tons in 2024 has created challenges for the pharmaceutical industry in the country.
