The US State Department told CNN-News18 that it is aware of reports about Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir’s alleged remarks regarding nuclear warfare and would “refer you to the Government of Pakistan” for clarification.
Munir reportedly stated at a dinner in the US last week: “We are a nuclear nation; if we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us,” a statement that raised diplomatic concerns.
India reacted on August 11, describing the comments as “nuclear sabre-rattling” and stating: “The international community can draw its own conclusions on the irresponsibility inherent in such remarks.
” India also expressed regret that these comments were made from the territory of a friendly third country and emphasized it would not yield to nuclear blackmail while continuing to protect its national security.
Munir was hosted by US President Donald Trump at the White House in June 2025 during his first visit to the United States. His second trip was to attend the farewell ceremony of United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander General Michael Kurilla.
These visits reflect the diplomatic engagement between Pakistani military officials and the United States administration.
