Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, visited the Taliban embassy in Islamabad to express condolences for victims of the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan.

During the meeting with Taliban representatives, discussions were held regarding bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party announced that Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman expressed regret over the damages caused by the recent earthquake in Afghanistan and offered prayers for the deceased during his meeting with the Taliban ambassador.

He declared solidarity with the Afghan people during these difficult times.

Known as the “spiritual father of the Taliban,” Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman maintains close ties with the group. The JUI leader has been critical of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s policies toward the Taliban in Afghanistan and traveled to Kabul last year to help restore relations between the Taliban and Islamabad.
