The US State Department confirmed in a congressional report that senior officials recently held formal meetings with former Afghan government representatives to coordinate support policies and aid programs for Afghan people.

These meetings are part of America’s comprehensive approach to support women’s and girls’ rights, civil activists, and higher education development for Afghan citizens.

During these discussions, American and Afghan officials focused on strengthening women’s rights, reviewing ways to continue support programs including educational scholarships and women’s training in third countries.

Support for Afghan educational institutions and backing students at the American University of Afghanistan was also discussed.

The United States has established two main scholarship programs: a $50 million fund providing full scholarships for 169 Afghan women and a $20 million program benefiting over 1,050 students.
