Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has ordered that Afghan citizens with sensitive backgrounds, including human rights activists and journalists, should not be arrested or deported.
This directive comes as the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan continues intensively.
According to the Interior Ministry’s circular, Islamabad police have been instructed to refrain from arresting former Afghan government officials, human rights activists, artists, and holders of US resettlement cases.
This decision was made while thousands of Afghan migrants remain at risk of forced deportation.
The circular also published a contact number, asking this group of Afghans to call during arrests, but no explanation was given on how police would identify this category of migrants.
The move highlights ongoing tensions between humanitarian concerns and Pakistan’s broader deportation policy.
