Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Prize winner, criticized Western countries’ engagement with the Taliban, calling normalization of relations with the Taliban “betrayal of Afghan women, hypocrisy and mistake”.
She emphasized that the situation of women in Afghanistan is worse than ever before.
In an interview with Spiegel magazine in Germany, Yousafzai said Afghan women live under Taliban “terror and horror.
” She asked the German government to reconsider its approach toward the Taliban and warned that no country should normalize relations with the Taliban group.
She added that the Taliban have become more extremist and smarter, calling for recognition of “gender apartheid” in Afghanistan.
Yousafzai stressed that the international community must take Afghan women’s struggle seriously, as all achievements of women over the past two decades have been destroyed.
