Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry announced that border crossings with Afghanistan will remain closed indefinitely due to rising security concerns.

This decision follows deadly clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani border guards that left dozens dead on both sides.

The Torkham and Chaman crossings have been closed since October 11, with approximately 5,000 containers carrying commercial goods stranded on both sides of the border.

This situation is causing daily economic losses of one million dollars to both countries and has led to increased prices of essential commodities in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that recent negotiations in Doha, mediated by Qatar and Turkey, resulted in a ceasefire agreement.

However, the resumption of border trade remains contingent on improved security conditions along the frontier.
