A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Sindirgi region in Balikesir province in northwestern Turkey on Monday night.
The earthquake occurred at 22:48 local time at a depth of 5.9 kilometers underground and was felt in major cities including Istanbul and Izmir.
Ali Yerlikaya, Turkey’s Interior Minister, announced that all AFAD teams and relevant institutions immediately began field search operations.
Expressing sympathy for the victims, he said: “I wish patience and perseverance for the earthquake-affected citizens.”
