Pakistani officials announced that the demolition operations in Afghan refugee residential areas in Karachi have entered their fifth day.
According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn’s report, more than 1,200 residential and commercial units in the Afghan settlement area have been demolished so far.
This residential area, established in 1984 and covering approximately 215 hectares, was previously home to thousands of Afghan refugees.
These operations are part of Pakistan’s government policy to repatriate illegal Afghans and reclaim government lands from unauthorized occupation.
The deputy police chief of Manghopir area stated that over 90 percent of residents have already returned to Afghanistan.
It is expected that the remaining 800 to 1,000 people will also leave the residential area in the coming days.
