The World Health Organization reported that the recent earthquake in northern Afghanistan caused extensive damage and infrastructure harm, particularly in Samangan province.

The 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck in the early hours of Monday morning killed 26 people and injured more than 1,144 others.

According to the organization’s report, 1,319 houses were destroyed in the earthquake-affected areas.

Balkh and Samangan provinces suffered the most damage, and several health centers were also affected.

Landslides in several areas have blocked roads and created serious problems for transporting emergency patients to hospitals.

The Taliban group and international organizations have deployed rescue teams to the affected areas.

Various countries including Iran, India, Pakistan and China have announced their readiness to send humanitarian aid to earthquake victims.

The earthquake occurred approximately two months after the eastern Afghanistan earthquake that killed nearly 2,000 people.
