Iranian nuclear scientists and experts conducted their second secret trip to Russia last year. According to the United States, this trip was an attempt to access sensitive technologies that could be used in nuclear weapons development.
The trip was part of a series of exchanges between Russian military research institutes and Iran’s Defense Innovation and Research Organization.
The shell company Damavandtech sent a group of Iranian laser specialists from Tehran to St. Petersburg in November.
The U.S. State Department sanctioned Damavandtech and its CEO Ali Kalvand in October for working with SPND and attempting to procure items usable in developing nuclear explosive devices.
