Mirza Mohammad Katwazi, former deputy speaker of the Afghan parliament, who lived alongside the Taliban group for three years after their return to power and accompanied Sirajuddin Haqqani on several trips, has now taken refuge in the US with a special immigration visa from the UAE.
Documents reveal Katwazi received his special visa on June 20, 2025.
Katwazi’s case has sparked debate about the criteria, review process, and potential political influence or backdoor dealings in granting such visas. So far, US officials have not commented on the matter.
