Speaking at an event in Canada, Dr. Mohiuddin Mehdi, a researcher and former MP, warned that Taliban policies are targeting the cultural identity of non-Pashtun ethnic groups.
Addressing the Association of Tajiks and Persian Speakers, he stated that contrary to Taliban claims, it is not Islam that is in danger, but the identities of Tajiks, Hazaras, and Uzbeks.
Dr. Mehdi argued that the systematic removal of Persian and Uzbek languages from official and educational institutions is an attempt at identity homogenization.
He emphasized that such actions have no religious basis and are incompatible with Islamic principles.
His comments reflect growing concerns about the preservation of Afghanistan’s cultural and linguistic diversity under the current administration, as cultural activists abroad continue to voice their opposition .
