The Taliban Supreme Court has announced the public flogging of eight people in Urozgan and Nangarhar provinces.

The individuals were accused of crimes ranging from theft to illicit relationships, continuing the group’s practice of corporal punishment.
In Urozgan, seven people received 39 lashes each and prison sentences, while one person faced similar punishment in Nangarhar.

These public spectacles have become increasingly common, defying international calls for human rights observance.

Human rights organizations condemn these acts as cruel and degrading.

Despite the outcry, the Taliban leadership maintains that such punishments are a necessary application of Sharia law and essential for social order.
