Sigmar Gabriel, the former Foreign Minister of Germany, has written an article in the Bild newspaper urging the German government to negotiate with the Taliban to deport criminal immigrants. He emphasized that the Taliban must guarantee that deported refugees will not be tortured or killed.
This request comes after an attack by an Afghan refugee in the city of Mannheim, which resulted in the death of a police officer and the injury of five others. In response to this incident, the German Chancellor stated that dangerous criminals and terrorists have no place in Germany.
Gabriel proposed that in exchange for accepting deported refugees, Afghanistan should receive economic assistance. The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry had previously expressed its willingness to engage in talks with Germany on this matter.
However, some political factions in Germany are concerned that negotiating with the Taliban could lead to legitimizing the group. Currently, the deportation of Afghan refugees from Germany has been suspended due to the Taliban’s rule.
