The High Commission for Refugees reports that on Friday, January 2 (12 Jadi), a total of 1,447 Afghan migrants were expelled from Pakistan, while another 242 were returned from Iran.
Most of these repatriations were forced, with returnees entering Afghanistan through major border crossings such as Torkham, Spin Boldak, and Islam Qala.
This surge in deportations coincides with reports of increased police harassment and detentions of Afghan nationals in Pakistan.
The figures follow a previous day’s expulsion of over 2,000 individuals, highlighting a significant escalation in the pressure placed on Afghan refugees residing in neighboring countries.
The United Nations has warned that the return of over 2.6 million people in 2025 has severely strained Afghanistan’s limited resources.
International aid organizations have raised alarms that many returnees face a lack of shelter and basic necessities, increasing the risk of poverty and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
