A gathering marking the anniversary of Commander Khair Mohammad Khairkhwa was held in London, attended by political figures and activists.
In a symbolic act of protest against the current regime, organizers played the national anthem from the era of the Islamic State of Afghanistan instead of the current one.
Speakers described the Taliban’s rule as “tyrannical and monopolistic,” arguing that suppressing opposition and civil liberties is pushing the country into deeper isolation.
They emphasized that historical experience suggests dictatorial regimes cannot suppress the people’s will forever.
The event highlighted the growing vocal opposition within the Afghan diaspora in Europe regarding the situation back home.
Participants called for unity and continued political struggle against extremism and violence in Afghanistan.
