Israeli police have detained a senior official from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office for allegedly obstructing an investigation into leaked intelligence.
Identified by local media as Tzachi Braverman, Netanyahu’s chief of staff, the official is currently under house arrest and has been barred from leaving the country for a month.
The investigation centers on the unauthorized leak of sensitive documents regarding the Gaza war and hostage negotiations to foreign media outlets, including the German publication Bild.
The elite Lahav 433 police unit has seized Braverman’s phone and raided his home as part of the inquiry into heavy crimes and security breaches.
Braverman is a veteran figure close to Netanyahu and was slated to become Israel’s ambassador to the UK. While no formal charges have been filed yet, this high-profile detention adds another layer of controversy to the Prime Minister’s office amidst the ongoing conflict.
