Heather Barr of Human Rights Watch has called on Western governments to fulfill their pledge to prosecute the Taliban at the International Court of Justice.

She emphasized that 18 months have passed since Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia promised action, stating it is now time for real steps.

Last year, these nations announced a joint initiative to hold the Taliban accountable for widespread human rights violations, specifically gender discrimination

. While the UN and over 20 countries supported this move, activists are concerned about the lack of visible progress.

Human rights organizations warn that delaying legal action only emboldens the Taliban’s repression of Afghan women.

They insist the international community must ensure that systemic rights abuses in Afghanistan do not go unpunished.
