Former Vice President Amrullah Saleh has commended US Congressman Tim Burchett for leading efforts to prevent American financial aid from reaching the Taliban.
Saleh described the initiative as an act of “conscience” and labeled the Taliban as historic thieves hiding behind religious hypocrisy.
In his statement, Saleh warned that the Taliban are misappropriating humanitarian funds to consolidate their power.
He alleged the group still holds over $110 million in previous aid and continues to benefit from currency printing supported by the US.
Saleh urged American lawmakers to close all loopholes that allow aid to be diverted through NGOs or corrupt networks.
The proposed legislation aims to enforce strict oversight to ensure US taxpayer money does not support the Taliban regime.
