Sultan Ali Kishtmand, former Prime Minister and one of the leaders of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan, has passed away. Asadullah Kishtmand, his brother, confirmed Sultan Ali Kishtmand's death in a Facebook post.
Sultan Ali Kishtmand was the first Hazara to reach the position of Prime Minister in two terms. He served as Prime Minister during the governments of Babrak Karmal and Dr. Najibullah.
After the fall of Najibullah's government, Sultan Ali Kishtmand went to Russia and later became a refugee in Britain.
