The Taliban government spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, has dismissed the recent update of four senior officials in the UN Security Council sanctions list as unreasonable and ineffective. He described the move as a clear injustice against the Afghan people's rights.
The UN sanctions committee recently updated the identity documents of Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Abdul Ghani Baradar, Amir Khan Muttaqi, and Hidayatullah Badri. The new details include biometric data and passport information, reinforcing travel bans and asset freezes.
Mujahid urged international institutions to pave the way for understanding rather than using sanctions as political pressure tools. After more than four years, requests to lift these restrictions and grant official recognition remain unfulfilled.
