The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has issued a stark warning regarding the ongoing restrictions on women's education and employment in Afghanistan. A new report suggests the country could face a shortage of 25,000 female teachers and healthcare workers by 2030.
According to the findings, approximately 20,000 teachers and 5,400 female health workers could be forced out of the system. The decline in female educators directly impacts girls' education, while the shortage of female doctors and nurses severely restricts access to maternal and child healthcare services.
These systemic restrictions cost the fragile Afghan economy millions of dollars annually. UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell emphasized that Afghanistan cannot afford to lose its future generation of skilled professionals, urging the Taliban government to immediately lift the bans on girls' education and women's work.
