The United Nations World Food Programme has sternly warned that the massive return of migrants from Iran and Pakistan has severely exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Millions of vulnerable people in the country still desperately need immediate assistance.
The executive director of this organization stated that around two and a half million individuals were forced to return to Afghanistan just last year alone. Many of these returning families entered the country through the Torkham border crossing completely empty-handed.
In recent months, Afghanistan has faced a drastic reduction in humanitarian aid funding and devastating natural disasters like earthquakes, in addition to the influx of returnees. International aid organizations urgently require immediate funding to sustain their life-saving operations.
