The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) has published a new analysis describing the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan as one of South Asia's most persistent and complex regional crises. Currently, there is no clear resolution in sight.

The roots of this crisis stem from historical disputes over the Durand Line and deep-seated mutual distrust between the Taliban government and Islamabad. Pakistan's unfulfilled expectations regarding action against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan have further fueled the ongoing tensions.

Pakistan's strict policies toward Afghan refugees, including forced deportations, have added immense human and political pressure to the situation. PRIO warns that without structured dialogue and regional cooperation, this conflict will continue to severely destabilize South Asia.
