The World Food Programme revealed that frequent closures of the Pakistan border forced them to rely on transit routes through Iran. However, the ongoing regional conflict and blockades at Iranian ports have severely disrupted this alternative supply chain.
Consequently, the organization must now route emergency aid through Saudi Arabia and Dubai, increasing both time and costs. Currently, 17 million Afghans are facing severe food insecurity, making these vital supply lines more critical than ever before.
