This significant transfer was executed under an established consular and judicial agreement between the Taliban administration and Iran. According to this mutual arrangement, the repatriated inmates will serve the remainder of their respective prison sentences within their home country.
Historically, thousands of Afghan citizens have been incarcerated in Iranian prisons for various offenses, including illegal entry and drug-related crimes. Since regaining power, the Taliban administration has actively negotiated with Iranian authorities to expedite the ongoing repatriation process for these prisoners.
