A group of European lawmakers and human rights activists have published an open letter urging the European Union to cancel its planned meeting with Taliban representatives in Brussels. They warned that such engagement would grant the group unwarranted political legitimacy.

The signatories expressed deep concern over the talks, noting that the Taliban administration has failed to meet any of the conditions set by the EU. These unfulfilled requirements include respecting human rights, ensuring unhindered humanitarian access, and forming an inclusive government.

European Parliament member Hannah Neumann emphasized that the Taliban are weaponizing migration issues to extract political concessions. She argued that years of gender apartheid and public abuses should result in increased international pressure rather than normalizing diplomatic relations.
