The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced that Tehran has no plans to meet with American officials in Doha. Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the upcoming talks will focus strictly on implementing existing agreements and releasing Iran's frozen assets.
He warned that Iran will not leave any violation of the agreement by the United States unanswered adding that any military action will face a swift and decisive response. Meanwhile Qatari officials also confirmed that no direct high level meetings between the two nations are scheduled.
These statements follow claims by US President Donald Trump who said that Iran had requested a direct meeting. However the White House clarified that American envoys will be in Doha mainly to hold technical discussions with mediators rather than direct talks.
