Barham Salih, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, held an important and official meeting with Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Interior Minister of the Taliban government, to extensively discuss the current situation of migrants. This key diplomatic meeting was organized in Kabul to carefully review the massive challenges facing Afghan refugees and find appropriate, lasting solutions for them.
The Ministry of Interior of the Taliban government stated in an official announcement that Mr. Salih placed special emphasis on the continued comprehensive cooperation of this UN agency to fully support returning migrants. Haqqani also warmly welcomed the timely visit of this high-level United Nations delegation to Kabul and strongly requested the continuation of this vital humanitarian assistance.
Barham Salih, who previously served with distinction as the President of Iraq, traveled extensively to various different parts of the country during his current trip to closely assess the humanitarian situation firsthand. During his multiple meetings with senior Taliban government officials, he also heavily emphasized the absolute necessity of women's full participation in society.
