The United Nations Development Programme reported that its specialized demining team successfully discovered twenty-five unexploded artillery shells in Baghlan province. These highly dangerous munitions were found buried dangerously close to a civilian residential home.
The artillery shells were unearthed when Afghan laborers were busy digging and rebuilding a collapsed section of the property. Suspecting danger upon finding the heavy metal objects, the workers immediately halted their activities and alerted the local police forces.
The professional clearance team successfully neutralized the explosives, which are believed to be leftovers from the Soviet occupation era. This swift intervention effectively saved the lives of eight workers and sixteen family members from a potential catastrophe.
