Following a blast at the private Shama-e-Hidayat school in west Kabul that left nearly 50 wounded, the Taliban arrested the school principal, a teacher, and the fathers of two students.

The explosion occurred on Monday afternoon, August 18, 2026, in the Mahdiya township of west Kabul. Hospital records show at least 14 of the wounded are girls aged 9 to 14. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid suggested the attack may have been carried out by ISIS and said an investigation is underway.

The arrested individuals were transferred to Security District 18, and the Taliban have sealed off access to the school. No group has claimed responsibility. The UN and EU have condemned the attack and called for an investigation.
