Local sources in Nangarhar province report that Vice and Virtue officials of the Afghan government have arrested a local journalist. Azizullah Aziz, the provincial representative of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee, was detained in the Ghani Khel district.
The journalist was reportedly taken into custody during a wedding ceremony at his residence. Officials raided his home, confiscated music-playing equipment, and apprehended him following a heated verbal altercation. He currently remains in detention.
Local authorities of the Afghan government have not yet provided any official comments regarding the arrest. Ongoing crackdowns on media activities and arbitrary detentions of journalists continue to raise serious concerns among human rights organizations operating in the region.
