Sources from Badakhshan province reported on Saturday, August 1, that clashes between Taliban and opposition forces have resumed in Zebak district. A video received by Afghanistan International shows a helicopter flying over Zebak.
A source said that opposition forces ambushed a Taliban convoy heading to the front line in Sangelich village on Friday night, causing casualties. Last week, the front line between the Freedom Front and Taliban was positioned around Jahil-e-Topkhana.
Neither the Taliban nor the opposition have commented on the clashes and further details are not yet available. The Taliban deployed reinforcements and a helicopter to the area following the ambush.
