The Pakistani army dismissed UNAMA's report on hundreds of Afghan civilian casualties from its cross-border strikes as "baseless." The army spokesperson said forces only targeted TTP hideouts and training centers.
UNAMA's latest report states that from October 2025 to the end of June 2026, at least 499 Afghan civilians were killed and 1,216 others were wounded. The UN body noted that many victims were women and children.
UNAMA emphasized that under international humanitarian law, all parties to the conflict are obligated to protect civilians. One of the deadliest incidents occurred on June 28 in Paktia province, where two consecutive strikes on a residential building killed at least 22 people, including five children.
