Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid described the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee's update of identity information for five senior Taliban officials as a "continuation of failed past policies," saying such sanctions have always been ineffective.

Mujahid said on Friday, August 1, in an interview with Taliban-controlled national television that the Security Council should abandon wartime policies and stressed that no individual's rights should be violated due to sanctions. He called for constructive engagement instead.

The updated UN list includes the Minister of Interior, Minister of Hajj and Endowments, Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Director General of Intelligence, and the Taliban's mayor of Herat. The Security Council clarified the changes are purely administrative and technical.
