Throughout history, many governments and armed groups have believed that they could rule people forever through guns, force, and fear. However, experience has shown that no weapon is as powerful as knowledge. A gun can silence a person, but it cannot destroy an idea.
Books teach people to ask questions, think, and search for the truth. Education helps people distinguish right from wrong. Knowledge makes it harder for people to be deceived by propaganda, lies, and prejudice. This is why many authoritarian governments fear books, schools, universities, and free media.
When a child goes to school, he or she does not only learn how to read and write. The child also learns how to think, solve problems, and make decisions about the future. Such a person is less likely to surrender to fear or manipulation.
There are many examples around the world. Many of the countries that are successful today achieved their progress not through guns but through education and knowledge. Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and many other nations invested heavily in education and benefited from stronger economies, greater security, and higher standards of living.
On the other hand, countries that neglected education and tried to solve their problems through force and weapons remained trapped in poverty, conflict, and underdevelopment for many years. Guns may capture territory, but they cannot build a nation. Building a country requires teachers, doctors, engineers, scientists, and informed citizens.
Afghanistan itself is a clear example. For more than four decades, different groups have tried to solve political problems through guns, war, and violence. The result has been continuous conflict, the migration of millions of Afghans, poverty, underdevelopment, and the loss of countless opportunities for the people. If the same energy, time, and resources had been invested in schools, universities, and education, Afghanistan could be in a much better position today. This experience shows that guns may bring power for a period of time, but only education and knowledge can build a country and secure the future of the next generation.
If a society has thousands of guns but its people lack education and knowledge, progress will be difficult. However, when people are educated, knowledgeable, and united, they can solve major problems and create a better future for generations to come.
That is why books, education, and knowledge are more powerful than thousands of guns. The power of a gun is temporary, but the power of knowledge can transform generations. The future of Afghanistan will not be built by increasing the number of weapons. It will be built through education, knowledge, and free thinking.
