Mirwais Azizi, owner of the Azizi Group, met with senior officials of Chinese company "Ren Power" in Jinan, Shandong, during a visit to China. The main goal of the meetings is to pave the way for building coal-fired thermal power plants in Baghlan province.
The central focus of the talks was finalizing a cooperation agreement between Azizi Energy and Ren Power for the design, engineering, and construction of coal power plants in Baghlan — part of a broader plan to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity in Afghanistan, with 1,000 MW to be produced in Baghlan.
About a year ago, Azizi signed a $10 billion agreement with the Taliban administration for the 10,000 MW project. However, critics say no significant practical steps have been taken since the deal was signed, though the company claims technical equipment has been purchased and will soon be transported to Afghanistan.
